Wave energy is the exploitation of the kinetic and potential energy of the swell to produce electricity. Its first converter was patented in France in 1799. However, to state that since then the slow development of the technology is due to its enormous costs, is equivalent to having a subjective vision of the slow general progress which this energy has experience.

The initial base for evaluating wave energy at any given point in the sea tends to be data from the measurement buoys which are closest to that point. In our case, these are the state ports. However, for a more precise evaluation we must turn to high spatial resolution bathymetry and technical and economic analysis of the potential wave energy at that point of the sea.
